I have created an account in the Archivos Españoles Red and opened up the Colotlan 1785 document but I need to clarify what or where exactly I begin. I opened up to the first entry for 111 where you requested that I begin. On the left hand side it has a sequential numerical column which states either "recto'' or ''verso''. Is this of any particular significance to you or to the document. Does recto mean it should be in Excel format and verso mean Word format or am I reading too much into this.
I opened up to Recto 111 but on the actual document on the upper right hand side it shows number ''110'' rather than 111 and it appears to be mostly text and not names or data. Is this where I should proceed? and should I proceed to transcribe in a Word format? I would actually prefer to do the text only as I am proficient in Word but not as experienced in Excel.

them, or put in three underscores (___) or both instead and we can
collectively go back and try to fill those in when we are done.
I have been able to decode more and more as I spend more time with
the text as you start learning the quirks of the specific
handwriting. This one is actually pretty good penmanship compared to
some others I have seen. As far as the surnames, you will have to
make the call. Often if it is a surname it will be repeated later on
in the same or neighboring rancho. I ran across a lot of "Carlos"
and was at first putting it as part of the first name but then when I
saw it next to women's names further down, I realized it was a
surname and went back and changed them.
Can you upload what you have done
as you finish chunks. That way we
can keep track of where people are and help in the decoding. When
you have another newer version, simply delete the existing one and
upload the new one.
