Re: An Unsolved Mystery.

Here is the translation of your "chiste" Jose.

The father of a wealthy family sends one of his older sons to the
U.S. so that he could learn English. The son went to one of the best
schools in the country and after a while the father calls him and
asks him, "So how is it going with your English?" The son
responds, "Gosh, Dad, I can't seem to learn English and I am
forgetting my Spanish." Then the Dad tells him anxiously, "Well you
had better come back then son, lest you become a mute."

Agradecemos mucho que hagas el esfuerzo de escibirnos en ingles. A
mi me cuesta bastante escribir en espanol tambien, pero sigamos
haciendolo como podamos y asi vamos mejorando, no...

but I know that my English is very bad. Any way I don't like offend
to anybody, I don't use "offensive words", and my intention is other.
In my house, may mother did say me "te voy a quemar la boca"
or "lavate esa bocota con jabón" when I, or my brothers and sisters
said any bad word (maldiciones o groserías).

translate to the rest of the ranchos group:

se fue a una de las mejores escuelas de allá, al poco tiempo el padre
le habla por teléfono a su hijo y le dice "y ¿cómo te ha ido con tu
inglés?" -El hijo le responde- "ay apá, fíjate que el inglés no lo
logro aprender, y el español se me está olvidando", entonces el padre
le dice apresuradamente "pos entonces rgrésate mijo, no te vayas a
quedar mudo".

Vallazza), but I VERY VERY much agree that it takes tremedous courage
to jump into the middle of a primarily english speaking group and
making an effort like you are doing. I don't make that effort in the
Spanish only groups that are available. I should but don't. My thanks
and encouragement go to you and I hope you continue to communicate
with the group. John Gonzalez is a great member of the group and has
helped me when I needed translation work. The message I send out when
people are applying for group membership was fine tuned and polished
by John. I said all that so you receive his commentary on your
english in the way I know he meant it. . .with the heart of a person
that wants to help.

worst than my spoken Spanish and that means it's pretty bad. Hey you
can ask Marge Vallazza she knows that even my written English is bad
as well. I definitely didn't do well in English class in school. In
fact when I was 5 years old (or was it 6) in the beginning class
(Kindergarten) I was almost getting put in with the kids that
were "mentally retarded" only because I couldn't speak English, at
that age I only spoke Spanish, but look at me now and see how far I
have come from those times. Let me call you on the phone and we can
fumble our way through a conversation but I'm truly handicapped in my
genealogical research by the loss of my primary language skills.

English. The Ranchos group very much appreciates your participation
and I am still hopefull we can still one day arrange an interview on
your experience in studying at the AGN. Keep talking to us in
English. . .now that we are talking about this I'm sure if there is
something that we don't quite understand we'll ask. Keep talking in
English. Your contributions are great!
