Hispanic Conference, Salt Lake City 2006

Hi Alberto!

I will definitely find out more when I am in Salt Lake City in a few weeks.  I will check as to when in October the conference will be held in 2006 and will check with the hotel to see about saving a block of rooms for our group.  If we make tentative arrangements far enough in advance then we will be assured of having lodging very close to the library.  Thanks for your interest!

 Hi Alicia!

The info you describe below is incorrect......Mickey Garcia was a  speaker two years ago at this conference and that is when Mimi Lozano received her award. Mickey will not be a speaker this year.....in  fact, Mickey and I will be in Salt Lake City doing research in  September..... Hopefully, next year we will make it for the  conference. I do know one thing, you have to make reservations WAY  AHEAD in order to get a room, especially if you want to stay at the  hotel right next to the FHC library, the Best Western Plaza.

Hey.....I just had a thought.!!!....Why don't we (Ranchos members and  any other interested parties) think about going to Salt Lake City  NEXT YEAR for the conference? When Mickey and I went two years ago it  was great! Our friend, Ruth Gomez Schirmacher, the Librarian and  Latin American Consultant in the International Reference Dept., was  our contact and made the speaker arrangements with Mickey that year.....I went along and carried Mickey's luggage! :-)     If we plan  a year ahead it could certainly be worked out. I know of two hotels  nearby and have a good rapport with the people there. Of course,  everyone would have to make their own reservations, etc. but we could  all be there at the same time and do a lot of good net - working! We  met some great folks when we were there!     Joseph.....what do you  think?

It was truly a nice nice experience meeting some I had known for over 2 years but only on the  internet. What was cool is that they are just normal people and not  weird like everyone says when you tell them you met up with someone you  met on the internet.
