Re: [ranchos] Re: Rancho del Muerto - Gracias

Hi Helyn--

If you click on this link: http://biblio2.colmex.mx/bibdig/dicc_cubas/base3.htm , it is a geographic dictionary and lists many of the ranchos and cities in Mexico, in alphabetical order.  Click on M, and then scroll down to the link for Muertos, which happens to be on page 152, volume 4.  There are 18 ranchos listed under Muerto, and 5 under Muertos, with other variations included.  I love this website, as it often helps me identify towns or ranchos  that are unfamiliar to me.  There is a rancho named Muertos near Tepetongo, which is near Jerez.

Arturo & Emilie:
Thank you both for your  most useful information. I am now in the midst of pursuing all of the avenues I was given. My sincere "mil gracias" for your time in coming to my rescue.

From what I have been able to gather there are two places called
Ranch del Muerto in Mexico.

One is in Chihuahua.  The other is in Aguascalientes.  There is a
place on modern maps in the municipality of Rincon de Romos called
Puerta del Muerto, which may be it and the other is a place just near
Aguascalientes (the city) called Cerro del Muerto.

Given the proximity of Tlaltenango to Aguascalientes, that is
probably where you should search.  There is someone who refers to el
Rancho del Muerto in their geneaology as well:

And a map:

he is listed as being from "Rancho del Muerto". (Hmmm I wonder how
that rancho was named). Has anyone encountered ancestors from this
rancho? I am looking for other possible connections...especially,
since many of the families in these ranchos were related.

referring to an e-mail that you sent me March 2003...valuable info as
this is the line of a Magallanas that I am currently
assisting...Gracias...
