Re: [ranchos] What is a Rancho???

Joseph,

In one of my e-mails to the group, I specifically said that I didn't know what the members of the Ranchos Group or the Jerezano Group at MSN were talking about when they mentioned this Rancho or that.  To me a "rancho" is a working ranch with livestock.  I asked if these "Ranchos" had been former Haciendas belonging to one land-owner where a village had sprung up, sort of like the Company Towns in New Mexico and Arizona owned by mining companies.  What are they exactly, in Mexico?

Subject: [ranchos] What is a Rancho???

What would the English equivelent of a rancho be????

I think of it as a small, small community as in a large neighborhood.

what are others thoughts on this?

thanks,

joseph
