St. Xavier is near the Alameda and Piasano streets
that are just west of Washington Park. Most of the
old homes have been torn down (probably because the
area was becoming a slum area). Nearby, there is a 6
lane bridge crossing over to Juarez. From the bridge
you can see St. Xavier.
Most of people that lived in the St. Xavier church
area were originally from Chihuahua, such as my
mother's family, and many were from Zacatecas/Durango,
such as my father's family. The great majority of the
people were very poor, but their sons and daughters
eventually made the core of our great generation--hard
working, outstanding citizens. Many of the second
generation want on to become doctors, lawyers,
engineers, actors (Antony Quinn, Gilbert Roland),
teachers, politicians, war heros, and athletics (Ted
Williams mother was from there).
The next generation will even be greater!
Alberto.
