thanks for this information. I didn't know about this topic. The Target
area limitation is only to do with discussion about very specific
genealogy information. The information you gave was general and applied
to us all and is very welcome and encouraged. Please bring up general
Mexican History and facts any time you like. Also you can discuss
detailed genealogy about areas outside our target area if you can relate
it to our target area. For example lets say you wanted to discuss the
obispado de Michoacan. . .if you look at the below you will see that
during this time period it covered parts of modern day Jalisco:

==================

there are probably many many ways we can talk about other areas outside
our target area without delving into very very specific genealogies of
those areas. Also I would not have a problem at all if someone wanted to
ask a general question about another state with the request to receive
replies "OFF-LIST" unless of course the information would be useful to
us all. I don't think this would be a problem but I might have to back
off on this if we suddenly get overwhelmed with non-Ranchos area emails.
. .I can't imagine this happening.

Subject: Request for Additional File Space

I wrote this email to Yahoo asking about info on purchasing additional
"File" space. It seems that they don't have that option available. We
are going to have to think about some near term solutions to our
dwindling file space. We are currently at 77% of our 20 mb available on
Ranchos and 82% of Ranchos2. So we still have a little room to breathe
but if we suddenly get everyone that is suppose to turn in their
genealogies to do it we might be right on the edge of me having to
reject submissions.

thanks,

joseph

Hello,

Thank you for writing to Yahoo! Groups.

There are storage limits within the Photos and Files area of Yahoo!
Groups.

Photos: Each group has 30 megabytes (MB) of storage in the Photos area,
as noted in that area of the group. Depending on the size (resolution)
of your images, that 30MB could consist several hundred images, or only
a few. There is also a maximum file size limit of 5MB. If you attempt to
upload more than 30MB total or any photo larger than 5MB to your group,
you will get an error.

Files: Each group has 20MB of storage in the Files area, as noted in
that area of the group. You can upload a high number of small files, or
a few large files, as long as you use no more than 20MB total storage.
There is also a maximum file size limit of 5MB. If you attempt to upload
more than 20MB total or any file larger than 5MB to your group, you will
get an error.

If you exceed the maximum storage limits for either feature, and still
want to add more content, you may either delete existing files/photos to
make room for new ones, or use the Links feature to point to
files/photos stored on locations outside of your group, such as a web
page, Yahoo! Briefcase or Yahoo! Photos.

Unfortunately, purchasing additional photo storage within Yahoo! Groups
is not available at this time. We apologize if this has caused you any
inconvenience.

Should you have other inquiries, please feel free to write again and
we'll be more than happy to assist you.

Thank you again for contacting Yahoo! Customer Care.

Sam

...Joseph...on our personal family websites, we have had this very same problem. Our solution was to cut back on photos. If someone had a photo of interest to others, then the photo would be emailed to the person requesting the photo. Our family sites (9) are on the myfamily.com servers. We either buy more space or start editing the photos & graphics sections. I'm not for sure if this would be the same on yahoo. All I know is once we do "cleaning" of all the files, then we always have plenty of space. Our one site has absolutely no photos whatsoever, only notations that they are available, and we have had the same 100mb ($29.95) since it's creation in 2001. Just thought I'd let you know our solution so I will go in and edit out my photos now. Thanks for allowing me the opportunity to place my file on your site...
