Genealogy Societies in Mexico

Is anyone aware of Genealogy and/or Social Societies in Mexico? In particular for the states of Jalisco, Zacatecas, Aguascalientes and Chihuahua?

I was working yesterday as a volunteer at my local Family History Center when a kindred spirit came in to work his genealogy. He was telling me how he contacts different social organizations in his mother country and they are very helpful in suggesting local sources of information.

Now I don't know about you but I couldn't believe how such a simple idea has somehow slipped by me. So now I'm hot on the trail of contacting whatever genealogical or social organizations I can find in the larger towns I'm searching for relatives/information.

So does anyone know of organization in Mexico that might be equivilent to some of the church or social organizations here? Maybe the Knights of Columbus or ???

thanks,

Joseph

ps: for starts I would just like to have a current phone book for those towns. If I had a phone book then I could start calling all the people there that have my surnames in search of currently living relatives. . . .with a little help I might be able to find some more oral history to gather.
