Re: [ranchos] Answer to Mary Garana Allen

Joseph!! I'm on a roll.  From Mexico City I am flying to Guanajuato.  I found another "cousin", 72 years old, who promises photos and a lot more information.  I can hardly stand the wait.  I am trying to get everything caught up in the office so that I can take off a week or so.  Will report when I return.   Mary

I read every e-mail emanating from Ranchos and  you  with relish!  It is almost as if I am sitting on the sidelines listening to you speak to each other.  Exciting.   One day I hope to have something to say.
You are truly an inspiration to us all. How many older relatives have passed in the short 3 years that I've been on this genealogy trail. If I had the motivation that you have I would also have been on a jet plane travelling to see these relatives before passed. Oral history is king in my opinion. Keep asking away. But I see your situation and as the elder person in your family (not to many opportunities to ask for the oral history. . .yes thats why finding other branches is of key importance). its great that you are "educating" yourself in "family" to have some oral history/written history to pass on to the younger ones that will one day be interested. Thank you and please do continue to encourage us with your example.

And that brings me to another point. I don't want the members to think that they are only here to "contribute" something. I would love for us to start thinking of ourselves as something similar to my new podcast name: NuestraFamiliaUnida. We need to take this genealogy one step at a time and if some of us are too busy from time to time to partake in the conversation so be it thats life, but when we get a chance to come back and catch up and let us know what is going on with your search for your roots.

hmmm, i'm rambling.

have fun in Mexico and please do take plenty of batteries for your tape recorder. spend as much time as you can with your 93 year old relative.
