Good Afternoon fellow researchers....
I have a really silly question. Do you
members have the actual microfilms that you refer to in this message?
How is it that you can get them for such a
long period of time. When I go to the FHC, I only get them for a
couple of weeks. They come in from SLC, I look through them at the
center using their equipment, request copies of certain documents, then
they get sent back. What am I doing wrong?
I work as a volunteer at my FHC so what you do is pay $3.25 (plus a .25
notification fee that varies from FHC to FHC) for the first rental
which should be a minimum of 30 days and then you can renew again if
you need more time for another $3.25 and I am not sure about this but
thought that renewal was for 60 days more, but might only be for 30
days. . .and then if that film is truely a goldmine you can renew the
3rd time (another $3.25 for a grand total of $10) and it should become
an indefinite film (well at least that is the way it works at my FHC
and was told its the way it is in others, but as Jonathan said some
don't hold them indefinitely.
Do you have these microfilms in your
possession? (wow!) Does it cost more?
they stay at the FHC.
I've been reading the posts but haven't done
any research (studying for a civil service test....), but I always like
to read the entries. I'm so lost...what's the deal with these podcast
and who are the people being interviewed?
People knowledgeable in different areas of Genealogy. . .whether they
be people with well known names like George Ryskamp or those that are
working on Mexican DNA projects like Gary Felix or fellow members of
the group like Rosalinda Ruiz. Right now its just a start and I hope to
let the quality of the material presented get better and better as the
subject matter itself diversifies into many different areas. Have you
heard out own Marge Vallazza's "The Grass Widow of the North."
http://nuestrafamiliaunida.com/podcast/poetry.html
that reminds me I'm wanting folks to be on the look out for people
that are writing Historical Poetry. Does anyone know of other Authors
of Historical Poetry?
If I can't participate in the podcast, are
there transcripts?
nope sorry but if I get volunteers to transcibe them I'll definitely
put the material online with each audio presentation.
What information is being given here?
you'll have to visit the site and see for yourself:
http://NuestraFamiliaUnida.com
Sorry about all these questions, but after
studying for that test, becoming a shop steward for my work's union and
almost going on strike, I haven't been really up on things.
I have lots more questions, but I feel like
I'm coming off "whiny"...sorry.
you don't come off as whiny to me, but don't let my you gotta go "see
for yourself" answer put you off. . .when you have time look into it.
but if you don't the site should be there awhile if I have anything to
say about it.

Now you're getting whiny. . .you are not a wannabe. . .you are head and
shoulders above the multitude of folks that are only talking the talk.
. .you are walking the walk or at least giving it a good no great go.
After all look at all your work and what you have submitted into the
files area:

If you are using Excel then why can't it be that we all create
Excel
files and upload them once into the files area. It seems that asking
you
to do double the work by re-entering them into the database in Ranchos
is punishment for a good deed. then again maybe I'm missing something.
Is there an advantage to this particular data base in the databases
over
an excel file in the files area?
I think the only difference is that for some they won't do it unless
encouraged by Maria to participate in the one in the databases (me
being
an example. . .yes I hear the message and will be working on my own
excel file sometime in the near future, but i'm so sorry to say that
truthfully I hardly get into the FHC anymore for my own personal
research and all I'll do is be a big tease by putting my films up
giving
the impression I'll be able to do look ups. . .well I' might be able to
do a few, especially if Kitty or Rich or Jonathan were to ask for some).
Here is my definition of a look up though: "Providing a photocopy or
scan of a persons requested record if the researcher is provided with
the complete name (first and last) and the date of the occasion (no
approximates)."
thanks,
