"Ax" Day January 31, 2006: 77 of 109

I just looked at the group member genealogies. Here is the official count: we have 109 members but only 77 genealogies. that means that there are 32 members that have not turned in your representative tree connecting you to our group study area. I know a good ten of you possibly 15 have talked to me and bought yourself some time before the official "Ax" date of January 31, 2006

Anyway if you are one of the 10-15 people that talked to me asking for more time beyond the January 31, 2006 deadline then in about a month or so please contact me off the list with a "reminder" that you talked to me. I'm going to make up a special email folder this time around for those that have communicated with me. For all other new members I just want to say that "communication" will get you an extension. Lack of communication will get you. . .well, I guess that's why I call it "Ax" day. In the past I've probably unsubscribe about 30-40 members

here is my previous message:

Happy New Year. . .as is the tradition I'm going to start 2006 off right. You all probably know that I run a tight ship when it comes to the very basics of this group and the ridiculously easy two requirements: 1) do you own work and 2) Submit a representative tree to the group from our target area.

[no gedcoms or living individuals in the tree].

Well periodically I send out my Ax list. The Ax list is those folks that have joined but haven't submitted their genealogies. For the first few notices I don't get specific I figure you know who you are so let it be just a notice. Later I'll get specific and as the "Ax Day" (January 31, 2006)  draws near you will definitely know you are about to be cut from the list.

Big Secret: If you want to be spared the Ax please communicate with me (makas@...). . .that's right just toss me an email and say, "Orale Chavo,  let me tell you what's going on with me. I am swamped and need more time, say another 6 months." My answer to a simple request like that would be a simple, "Pues suguro que si. pero despues de 7/31/2006 you're going to be in a situation I can't remedy. So I'd suggest you get me "something" representative of your ties to our area of research by then, okay primo."

Now there are a couple of people in the group that I've let in because they have "strong" feelings that they are tied to our area but haven't actually made the connection. These cases are special exceptions and all I would ask is that they continue trying to make the connection.

I guess the whole point of this is stagnancy. I don't want folks to be stagnant. . .if we call ourselves "serious" researchers, well I don't think we would be doing nothing to advance our work. Well now that brings me to a new requirement I'm thinking of adding. Well probably not a requirement but a strong suggestion. I think that everyone should occasionally add a little something to their "files" or "online work" (links). I for one am seriously guilty and need to resubmit all my .rtf files as the ones currently submitted have had much more work done to them.

Anyway that last one is not a requirement of the group but like I said a suggestion, lets have it a strong suggestion.

thanks,
