Re: [ranchos] old Spanish names

I have this comment, it´s anecdotic. My older brother once ask a friend to give a certain message to somebodyelse, at the end he remarked "...tell him Don Guillermo said so" I promptly said "hey! you must not refer to yourself as Don, Don is a prize you earn from been an honest man! when people start calling you "Don" you realize that you had been an honest man! It is a sign of prestige.  My father is called Don Nicolas (which make me proud), and he never refers to himself as "Don". Just a cultural bit. Have Joyeus celebrations!   LeticiaLeon

People seldom went by their given name, Concepcion became Chon..
Refugio became Cuko or Cuka, Maria de la Lus became Lucha.. my
grandfather was Epitacio, they called him Pancho. My father is Aniceto
but they call him Chet... Somehow when they added Don or Dona before
the name it became even more special whatever it was... instant
respect!
