old Spanish names

People seldom went by their given name, Concepcion became Chon.. 
Refugio became Cuko or Cuka, Maria de la Lus became Lucha.. my 
grandfather was Epitacio, they called him Pancho. My father is Aniceto 
but they call him Chet... Somehow when they added Don or Dona before 
the name it became even more special whatever it was... instant 
respect!
