Re: [ranchos] militar insignia regarding my photos

John,

The link sent by Jose Munoz was of great interest to me because my husband's maternal grandfather was a Chihuahua (Ciudad de Chihuahua) policeman, a "federal", born in 1853, died in 1951, chased "el Indio Victorio" all over the place, never caught him.  I have one picture of him in his uniform, which is very, very different from the ones worn by Leticia's ancestors (it looks more like the uniform worn by the soldiers of the Confederate States of America in the 1860's, light colored with a cap).  Unfortunately, in the picture, he is seated holding one of his infant daughters and his left breast is obscured by the child, so I can't see a badge.  The photo is very faint in some places, but I can make out the insignia on the cap clearly:  it is two light colored bars (vertical----gold or silver?) with a dark bar in the middle.  The insignia on the shoulder is too faint to make out.  My husband is taking his nightly nap right now  (I've been up all night putting up the Christmas décor), but when he wakes up later today, I will ask him if he knows what rank his "tata" held.  If he doesn't know, I will call his elderly (more elderly than my husband) cousin and see if she knows.

it looks fine, but the eagle is bending the head; in the photo the head is up, could be a police; the photo most probably was taken in Jesus Maria or Arandas, Jal. between 1920 and 1930. I think he is my great-grandfather half brother. All of these photos were given to my father when my gg father past the way by, the last and third wife. thank you, Leticia Leon

Curiosity got the best of me. Visit the following
site:

Scroll a smidge past center and you will find a
Chihuahua Mexico policeman badge. What is your
opinions? Where was the ancestor photo taken?
