Hey hey, Roberto Martínez! On behalf of the entire Ranchos group, I would like to welcome you. My name is Steven F. Hernández, and just by the sound of the few names and Los Altos de Jalisco localities you mentioned, I can already tell you that you and I are related.
You will find you already have other distant (or not so distant) kin in Ranchos. Alice Wissing, María E. Cortéz, Irma Gómez Lucero, Roberta Romero, and María Elena (Nena) Gutiérrez Uhlenberg, among others I'm sure, share common ancestry from Los Altos. Irma and Nena in particular, as well as myself, have many common roots in Jalostotitlán, San Miguel el Alto, San Juan de los Lagos, as well as many other towns. There all the Martín/Martínez/Martín del Campo/Campos are one in the same family. That MAY be your actual surname, Martín del Campo, as it was used in the past. Seems everyone with Alteño genealogy descends from that family at least once, if not more.
But the same can be said about some or many of the other surnames you also mentioned, such as Padilla, Muñoz, González, Márquez, Vallejo, Centeno, Gutiérrez, and many more. There were at least three distinct families of González in the area, González Rubio, González de Hermosillo, and González de Rubalcava, and other Gutiérrez families; Gutiérrez de Laris, Gutiérrez de Mendoza, and Gutiérrez de Hermosillo. All the other surnames are unique and have been well researched and many can be traced back to Spain. The Padilla (Padilla Dávila and De la Mota y Padilla) family has been traced back the farthest, to about 1200.
We look forward to glancing at your documents and names when you upload them. I just hope it's sooner than later. All of us, your above mentioned cousins, already have our family histories in the Documents section, so you can check them out and compare them to your own family. Who knows, there you may find some juicy piece of information or common ancestor already. It's just waiting for you to look at it.
So good luck with your research and we look forward to sharing our data and working together. Good bye and God bless.
Hasta luego de parte de tus primos,
Steven Francisco Hernández López
