RE: [ranchos] Re: Trip to Nochistlan

Deena,

One of the most important items to prepare before you drive across into Mexico is to check your auto insurance coverage.  Chances are your company will not cover you while in Mexico.   I suggest you get on the internet and just type  "Sanborn" for the search.  Sanborn is a company that has been offering insurance and travel information for Mexico for many years.  Their services include, strip maps and travelogs for your trip just like the AAA provides.   I used them years ago and it was well worth the cost.   The gas station situation then was a real gamble with poorly marked pumps for the various fuels (leaded, unleaded, etc).  I'm sure things have improved a little.  Perhaps someone in the group has been there recently and can provide up to date information.

What would be the best way to travel to Nochistlan, Zacatecas, Mexico from
southern California?  Can you give me approximate distances and/or hours
involved in each leg of the trip?  I seriously hope to make the trip with my
husband in February/March, 2005, on our way to Oaxaca.
