Welcome Jodiah

Hi Jodiah,

I so much wish I lived close to Bancroft Library. Gloria Delgado sent me a scan of a map of Jalisco she found at Bancroft. You might want to check things out there as they have wonderful resources for the Mexican Genealogist.

welcome to the group.

if i could lend one piece of advice that will serve you well in years to come: Collect as much oral history as you can!!!

I am glad to have found this group and that Joseph has accepted my
request for membership! I have been lurking here for 1 1/2 weeks and
have made good use of the message archive during that time. Now I
feel it is time to introduce myself, and my research:

My name is Jodiah Castro and I live in Berkeley CA. I am 29 years old
and have always been interested in where we have come from as a
family, although that interest only turned into actual research when I
decided to map my living relatives for an upcoming family reunion. It
is so easy to know your elders as tio and tia, and to be told for many
years that all the kids are your cousins ;) So I created a chart of
over 100 relatives descendant of my ggr-parents Malaquias Castro of
Mezquital del Oro Zacatecas (1895-~1923), and Librada Bedoya of
Arizona (1896-1981) One thing led to another and six months later I
am seeing the insides of libraries I didnt even know existed!
We are: Castro's, Bedoya's, Fuentes', Dominguez', Martinez', and
Valdez'. Living from Hayward CA, east to the cities surrounding
Fresno. Our Castro's came from Joaquin de Castro (1730-?) of San
Cristobal de la Barranca and Mezquital del Oro Zacatecas. I havent
gotten nearly so far with the Bedoya's, only reaching Elijio Bedoya
(1834) of Ures Sonora. (he also may have been through Alta, and
Guaymas)

I am actively working on sourcing the ancestors I have already added
(currently at 398), and in fact have at least partialy frozen new
additions so that I can fill in some of the (numerous) empty spots in
my tree!

I look forward to working with the group and will be adding
information to my folder in the very near future, however if anybody
is curious about what I have so far you are welcome to view my tree
at:

Thank you!

PS: I had the oportunity to view the garcia-carraffa Heraldry volumes
that Joseph mentioned in a post a while ago, I didnt have enough time
to research them properly (there are something like 28 pages for
Castro) but I intend to go back soon to take digital photo's of
illustrations, photocopy the pages that he listed in his post, and
make scan's available for the group.
