Hi
Alice,
As Steven mentioned, there are several of us who descend
from the Martin del Campo line. Some in my family have used Martin
del Campo, Martin, Martinez, and also Campos. Many of your other surnames
are also in my Jalos & San Juan families--Munoz(de la Barba)/de Nava
and Padilla & Lozano specifically from San Juan, so I hope you won't
wait too long to share your research. Please look over my lines, and let
me know if we have any commonality.
Thanks!
Irma

Hello Everybody,
My name is Alice Wissing and I'm introducing
myself to the group. Before I say anything else, I want to tell
Steve Apodaca, another newcomer, how fortunate he is to be in his early
20's and researching his family. I wish I had started at such a
young age, as it has been an empowering experience for me to discover the
specifics about my origins. Until I started this research, I was
under the impression my father's family had just "sprouted" on the
Mexican side of town, but now, thanks to the Mormons, Mariano Leal and
members of this group, I'm finding out otherwise.
My father's family
originated in San Juan de Los Lagos and Jalostotitlan. My maiden
name is Campos and the surnames I'm researching on my father's paternal
side appear in both areas and are as follows: Campos (Martin Del
Campo, Martin), Munos, Ramires, Marquez, Padilla, Barba, and
Lozano.
Throug! h my grandmother's side, I have an extensive tree that
a cousin prepared that dates back to the mid 1500's in a few cases.
Because I haven't viewed records to support her research, I need to
know if I should hold off on providing that information (I'm pretty
confident the work will be accurate - she's smart, a Sorbonne graduate
even).
With my Campos research, I'm having difficulty tracing the name,
as it seems to constantly change (from Campos to Martin Del Campo, back
to Campos, then to Martin). Does anyone know if there is any rhyme
or reason to how it evolved?
Before I submit a tree I'd like
to do a little more research. I ask that Joe have mercy on me
and allow me a little more time. Again, you are such a
wonderful group and I can only compare this to finding a family or
something.
Sincerely,
Alice
