have you found your local family history center?
go to http://www.familyserarch.org
click on "Library" at the top
then click on "Family History Centers"
fill out the info it will direct you to your closest FHC
once youve found its location call them and see if the info is still
current. If it is then go pay them a visit.
once there you can ask them about how to order films. But if you want
to go there with your homework done and film numbers in hand that you
want to order then:
go to http://www.familyserarch.org
click on "Library"
click on "Family History Library Catalog"
click on "Place"
insert your particular place you are looking for. . .uh, lets just say
it was Atotonilco el Alto for example:
put Atontonilco el Alto in the search window and click Search:
click on the link the comes up for Atotonilco el Alto, Jalisco
click on "Church Records" [later you can go back and click on the other
options]
click on
click on "View Film Notes"
scroll down to the bottom of the page where it says:
For a printable
version of this record click here then click your browser's Print button.
click on the here and print out that page. For areas that have many
films you might have to click on "next set of records" to get the next
group of records. For Atotnilco el Alto there are: 288 films.
Look through what is available and order those that you think will
reveal your birth record or your parents or whatever was the closest
generation to you that was born there. Start there and gradually work
your way back.
I went through this fast so if I've forgotten anything or if something
is unclear ask. I'll be out of town for a few days so I'll get back to
you later.
