Re: [ranchos] Help with Questions/Immigration Records

Carol, I thought our NARA here had El Paso records. The 1930 Census states that my grandmother came to El Paso in 1913 and my grandfather in 1918, so would I have to order 2 sets of records to come to KC's NARA or what? Thanks. Marge:)

Joseph, this is a good topic.

Since I have my grandfather's application "Registry of
an Alien", and he has provided me with good dates, at
least I hope these are good dates.

This is what he wrote down on his application:

He arrived in the states Dec. 15, 1908
Destination was To Campo Echizos, TX.
He states he was coming to remain permanently
He was accompanied by -  My brother Juan Muro and two
friends
He arrived at the port of  - El Paso de Lajitas, TX
I do have his Alien Card number.  His wife my
grandmother Maximina Lopez arrived here May 20, 1907 -
Port of Entry - El Paso.

Here in Kansas City at our NARA they do not have El
Paso records, however they do have Eagle Pass, TX.
They don't have an index for Eagle Pass and hopefully
will purchase this because when you go through the
microfilm it's in date order everyone that came in
that day and year, it's not in alpha order and unless
you know the date it's looking for a needle in a
haystack.

My question would be:  Since I have the above
information from INS records, do I still need to
retrieve actual documents from the El Paso microfilm,
how much more detail do those records give?

Does El Paso records have an index???  If so can we
get this through library loan or through our local LDS
center on loan?

My grandfather had to return to Mexico in 1911 (death
of his father) this time he came through Eagle Pass,
he states he came across the bridge paid a nickel and
signed his name in a book, I'm always curious about
this story because if they returned after a short
visit, they didn't have to go through as much red tape
to come back???

Well those would my questions.
