RE: Odd names[ranchos]

The legend with my name is; my mother gave me a name which upon hearing, my teenage brother said "It is a "helluva" name, lets call her Helyn." When I was about eleven years of age, my mother went to the court house, and for $1.50 had my name legally changed as I had been using the new name in school.
The old name is now a family secret....hmmm

My mother's name is Nemecia.  Yes, with a c, and she hated the fact that people always told her it should be spelled with an s, and that it was a man's name.  She and all of her siblings were named after her saint's name.  In other words,  my abuelito would look at his Catholic calendar for a name when his child was born.  He ended up naming two of his son's Alejandro because they were both born on the same day, different years of course.
