Prior to the foundation of the parrish of San Luis Obispo in Colotlan
c. 1720, the Franciscans ran a convent (monestary) in the city, where
marriages and baptisms were performed. Apparently, there are archives
of the convent, as they are quoted in Esteban Valdes Salazar's book
Historia de Totatiche, Tomo II... which by the way is invaluable, since
it has a transcritption of the entire 1770 census as well as
transcriptions of the major land transactions that occured in the area
through that period, so that one can plot out the ownership of the land
and superimpose the residents on each of those plots.
Does anybody have any information on these Colotlan Franciscan archives?
