Hi Alicia:
Thank you for your offer to help, I think I am
going to need some time to digest the information that I have up to this point.
If I do get stuck, I might take you up on the offer. thank you
again.
I also lived in San Jose! I went to
Elementary, Junior High, and High School there. I used to live on
North 12th St. just a couple of blocks from the school. The
elmentary school used to be on Empire St. between 10th and 11th St.
It was I real heartbreak to go back and find that the school had been
demolished...I went to Roosevelt Jr. High and James Lick High on Alum Rock Ave.
(Jim Plunkett, of football fame, Raider's Quarterback, also went to James Lick
High) By that time, we were living a few blocks East of White
Rd. On Sunday I used to walk all the way from my house to downtown to the
movie theaters on First St. and then walk all the way home. I wasn't old
enough drive...I could have taken a bus, but I enjoyed the walks. Alum
Rock used to be one of my favorite places, until it was taken over by young,
gang members from Oakland.
In 1969 we went back to Santa Clara and then
bought a new 4 bedroom house in the Berryessa Area for $ 28, 000!!! A
year later we sold it and went to Guaymas, Sonora for the next 10 years. I
can just imagine what that house is worth right now $$$
I did not ask about the ownership of the land, so
I have no idea who owns what at "Rancho Los Portales" There are still a
few families living on the ranch and most of them have dairy herds. The
land is pretty arid to grow corn or anything else. Right now the
countryside is pretty green and lush, it is the rainy season...It rained just about every afternoon and evening all the
time we were there.
