There are several entries. Other practices were also mentioned such as one handed down from the Aztecs where they place a knife on the pregnant woman's abdomen (I forget why). Not mentioned is the practice described to me by some Mexican immigrants of tying a string around a woman's abdomen during pregnancy. The "Somalian" link describes the same 40 day post-partum period observed by Mexicans and Vietnamese that I knew about. Other cultures have that same custom. Where could it have originated?
