Re: [ranchos] Introduction

Hi Connie,

Welcome to Ranchos prima.  This is your cousin Steven F. Hernandez.  I trust your genealogical research is continuing at a healthy pace.  Have you been doing any work in Aguascalientes with our Muñoz de Nava, Ruiz de Esparza, Romo de Vivar, and other ancestors and descendant family?  I look forward to checking out any of your submissions to the files section of Ranchos, if Joseph allows it.  I'm sure your Ranchos cousins will appreciate it, such as Irma Gomez Lucero, Maria E. Sanchez de Cortez, Felipe Hermosillo, John Gonzalez, Maria Elena Gutierrez-Uhlenburg, and a few other alteños on Ranchos. We are all related to one another, and to you Connie.

As a side note, you should consider turning in something to the next SHHAR Genealogical Journal, Vol. 6.  I am currently in the process of editing the journal and accepting articles and submissions.  Maybe something on your research in Aguascalientes, Jalisco, or Zacatecas.  But, if you have any northern Mexico research, I will more gladly accept it for the Journal.  I am trying to expand the Journal's scope to include a wder-ranging geographical area.

Best wishes,
Tu primo
Steven Francisco Hernandez Lopez

Subject: [ranchos] Introduction

Hello all!

My name is Connie Dominguez and I've just joined the Ranchos Groups. I
look forward to learning a lot and sharing whenever I can. I have
compiled a lot of information over the past 9 years since I embarked
on this journey...so much so that I can't keep a good handle on it.
Recently, I lost all of my old Word documents (things I'd compiled,
lists, copies of emails & posts, etc.) in a computer crash. A few
paper copies that I had just happened to print out survived. I will
try to reproduce or scan (bit by bit) what I feel might be useful to
the group.

I began working on my own family tree and slowly began to branch out
to help others. What was once a light hobby became much more. I began
corresponding with many researchers, including some in this group, and
began learning and helping. I welcomed challenges from fellow
researchers and tried to answer as many as I could. In fact, I began
researching/answering so many requests from others that it's been
years since I've actually worked on my direct family lines. :-)

I also began a 'small project' (or so I thought) in an effort to get
the big picture of the founding families of Aguas. I decided to
extract the baptisms, marriages and burials for Españoles from the
parish records of El Sagrario in Aguascalientes, Aguas., for the 17th
century. (I extracted only Esp. or those having similar names or
mixed marriages only because most designated 'indios' or 'esclavos' in
the books did not carry surnames, and because my lines had previously
been classified as 'españoles'). However, with this extraction came
the tendency to begin linking families and compiling the data.
Eventually, I went back to the beginning and compiled family group
sheets for every married couple and filled in as many children as I
could. I am still in the thick of this process. I was right...I do
have a much bigger picture of the families of Aguas., but in some
ways it's too big! I intend to publish this information eventually
and add other compilations I've made in the book's appendices.

I will upload the specific surnames I am researching linked to their
places and times. Likewise I will try to retrieve posts I may have
added to other lists and post them here if I feel they might be
helpful. I've added my surname list to the Who's Who section of
this group if you have any questions or can offer any assistance with
those names.

Happy Hunting!

Connie
