I am so excited I know you can all hear me sing and dance. This
afternoon I attended my first meeting for a newly formed group. It's called
Los Caxcanes de Tlachichila and it falls under the purview of La Federacion
de Clubes Zacatecanos de el Norte de California. Meaning that it is fully
sanctioned by the Club Zacatecano which is affiliated with the 3x1 in
Zacatecas and Mexico City.
Prior to tonights meeting the main method of communication and
fundrasing was by word of mouth to a very small group of individuals who
were continously taxed with raising money for the 3x1. For every dollar
raised here, the fedral government and the state of Zacatecas
matched it with one dollar each. In spite of the small group they have
managed to raise money to build the cafeteria for the high school, build the
first funeral parlor of the town and built a senior center.
The group is planning as a result of tonights meeting it's first dinner
dance. We convinced them that not only was it important to raise money but
to create and build unity and friendships. I put forth that as a result
of our visit last September and my meeting distant relatives who
informed me of these clubs and my desire to find my ancestors I wanted to
meet more people from Zacatecas. We got a consensus and most people were in
agreement that they too wanted to get to know more people from the
area.
Every person attending tonight's meeting is now expected to bring
3 new people to the next planning meeting 2 weeks from today. I met people
who had known my parents or my grandparents or who had known of them and I
expect that as the group grows we will continue to find more family
connections.
If anyone in Ranchos lives near San Jose California I cordially invite
you to our first dinner dance, even if you're not from Tlachichila or
Nochistlan as many of these people have family connections from
Agascalientes, Calvillo, Jalpa, Teocaltiche, Jalostitlan, Juchipila, Apozol,
Yahualica, Mexticacan and a few other towns and rancherias.
We are planning the event in or around mid-to late June. It should be
fun, lots of work but fun.
Goodbye for now.............Alicia
