A Bit of Oral History

My mother, was born in 1906 in Tlaltenango, she was told by her grandmother, born in 1866, that when she was a young girl in Tlaltenango, the sky turned dark, it was cold, and that little white things were falling from the sky.

She also said that the people in Tlalenango de Sanchez Roman were frightened,as they thought the world was coming to an end.

Two events happened in the world at that time.

The Great explosion of the Krakatau Volcano (Krakatoa") of

August 2, 1883, in Indonesia. The effects were experienced on a global scale. Fine ashes from the eruption were carried by upper level winds as far away as New York City. Tsunami waves were recorded or observed throughout the Indian Ocean, The Pacific Ocean, the American West Coast & South America.

November 27, 1885 - A shower of Andromedid meteors fell. On this same day an iron meteorite fell near Mazapil, Zacatecas (near Concepcion del Oro). I have sent a message to the university asking if the meteorite would have caused the sky to turn dark.

Thought this bit of information would be of interest to researchers. Glad I wrote this information given to me by my mother in my daughters "baby book" otherwise, I would have forgotten.
