I was in Zacatecas and in Jerez over a week in
Nov/Dec 1997. This was a dream trip of a lifetime that had been a year in
the planning. The only thing I had not considered was the high altitude
and I got so sick. I ended up having to go to a clinic where I received
excellent treatment. My husband booked us on a flight and we left
Zacatecas before we had originally planned.
I wanted to ride a bus TO Zacatecas from Juarez
(our point of embarkation) so that I could see and appreciate the landscape that
my grandmother had seen on her trip north from Zacatecas. It really was
TOO long a bus ride and even though we left the Juarez terminal about
9:30 in the morning, we did not get to Zacatecas until 3 am. (We'd
been told that it was an express bus straight to Zac).
One last thing, make sure you have a visa and get
all your documents (passport included) stamped. The AAA travel book to
Mexico said AAA had travel visas. When we got there, we were
told they didn't offer them anymore but that we could get a visa at the
border. Nope. The bus was waved through the aduana--no visa for
us. Coming back home could have been a nightmare.
