Re: [ranchos] Family Tree Software

I keep getting numerous copies of a notice from ranchos@yahoogroups.com  that a file for Kitty Cortez or something similar is available for viewing.:(  It smells like a virus to me.  Marge:(

okay this is what I would prefer but not absolutely required.

1) send me a "genealogy report" in .rtf format [go to "view" then to "genealogy report" then "contents" and then to "number of generations to show" and limit the generations to your grandparents if they have passed already. If they are still alive then go to your great grandparents. keep decreasing the # of generations until you get to a "report" that has the living excluded].

2) send it to me and I'll make up a folder for you but I need this info:

a) what name do you want each file to have. . .maybe just the Surname or the Surname and given name of the oldest ancestor?
b) what towns do you want me to include in the description. . .give me the names of towns included in each report

3) you have time so don't rush. . .if you need more time fine or you can send in what you have now and later update.

4) I haven't said this to anyone before but I'd really really like for you to chose the option where your references*** are given. Its makes it so much nicer if people can see what record on which page in which volume of what film the records were taken from

thanks,

joseph

*** A speech to the Ranchos group:

References. . .oh how important it will be one day to have references in our work. If any of you all have been putting your work into a genealogy software and not including references, well you need to change and start including them. They are so so important. In fact one day when we are dead and gone they will be the more important part of our research. Without the references our work will only be written oral history. . . ! References add credibility to our hard work.

I think I'm getting close for my first pedigree file download. However, I have two issues.

1) I have Family Tree Maker 2005, and I don't know how to send it, nor to whom.

2) In this file, I have many relatives who are still living. Should I make a duplicate file, edit out the living relatives, then post this one?

Thanks, Ken Alva
