You're welcome Joseph. I should have been posting Mimi's email with the current issue of Somos Primos every single month, but for some reason or another I have just neglected to do it. I should know better too, as I have been a member for years and because I regularly attend the SHHAR meetings and have been a Board member for quite some time.
I know, there is no excuse for me. Sorry.
But I can make good by posting Somos Primos on Ranchos every month. Besides for everyone interested, you can view EVERY SINGLE BACK ISSUE to the very first one.
Adios,
Steven H.

Steven,
I guess you saw how I was rambling on and on about music and such and
decided to send this to see if I'd root out the gold. Well I'm sure
there is other Gold in this issue but the URL:
http://www.nuevosvalores.com/index.htm is so so cool. Thanks for
bringing this issue to our attention. Also I see there is a nice:
Afro-Mexican Racial & Ethnic Self-Identity: thesis abstract by Alva
Moore Stevenson article and also a 1653 Sancta Provincia de Xalísco:
Carlos Martín Herrera de la Garza article. Yes this particular issue is
rich for all of us. Not to mention what other info we can find.
I don't know why i've been negligent but Mimi Lozano's notification of a
new issue email should be posted every month. Thanks for doing this and
if you want to great otherwise I'll start posting her notification
message on the group regularly.
thanks Steven,
joseph

Hi all . .
I know you will all be touched by the beautiful illustration
created by Eddie Martinez in support of the 2005 Hispanic American
Series at the National Archives in D.C., Latino Blood, American
Heart. We are trying to find funds for publishing posters for
distribution to schools and libraries. If you have any
suggestions, please email me, or call 714-894-8161.
As usual there is a great variety of articles. One of my favorite
in this issue is under Texas, called Head of the Class. It was
first published in the L.A. Times in January 2002. I saved it
because I just loved the story. It made me proud. Head of the
Class is about then 24-year old Victor Cornejo who with knowledge
of his culture and marketing intuitiveness revived the El Paso
Stetson hats company in El Paso. (Texas)
Some other articles touching the emotions are the one sent by
Mercy Bautista Torre who writes "This web page is in memory of a
man I never met, yet I admire him as if I knew him all my life, my
Uncle, PFC. Fernando C. Alatorre" (USA)
Michael Connolly Terrazas writes about his discoveries in My
Chihuahua Cousins "My appreciation of immediate and extended
family, heredity and the importance of each has been reborn. I
seek to remain close to these newly discovered cousins, and to
find and meet others!" (Southwest)
The surname information is from Eddie Grijalva who has been
researching the Grijalva surname for 20 years, first his
California roots and heritage, and then back through history to
Spain and the Villa de Grijalva. He shares some of his email
networking communication. (Surname)
Articles on getting involved in promoting Hispanic heritage:
Cesar Chavez events, national (US)
San Juan Capistrano, Swallow's Day and parade (CA)
Military history channel plans to produce 20 hours of Hispanic
programs (US)
National Park Service to focus on the historical Hispanic presence
(History)
Hispanic/Latino/Chicano Identity is the topic in numerous selections:
Notes from EPIC of the Greater Southwest by Rubén Sálaz Márquez
(Southwest)
Afro-Mexican Racial & Ethnic Self-Identity: thesis abstract by
Alva Moore Stevenson
Afroargentine (Black)
Chicano Shouldn't Be a Dirty Word (US)
Latino Racial Outlook Varies (US)
Indigenous in Mexican Census (Indigenous)
Remnants of Crypto-Jews Among Hispanic Americans. (Sephardic)
'Mexican-American' is only a small piece of who I am (Texas)
Four articles of immigrants entering Venezuela by Roberto José
Pérez Guadarrama
and Melania Suárez reveal complexity of identity in Spanish
speaking nations.
Three articles in DNA research, two in Mexico and one under Sephardic
Selections from international historians
1653 Sancta Provincia de Xalísco: Carlos Martín Herrera de la Garza
Family tree of the Llamas: Salvador Cabral Valdes
Ponce de Leon: Alberto Casas Rodriguez
Agustín de Iturbide portrait: Armando Escobar Olmedo
Four articles by columnist Angel Custodio Rebollo
Moguer, España; Francisco de Vides; Luis de Carvajal; Francisco
Vela Siller; surname Treviño; and the status of Columbus' tomb
Just for fun under Miscellaneous, you'll find information on how
to purchase Loteria game cards for large numbers (500+) and a
website to hear folk music of Mexico.
Thank you all for submitting materials and your kind letters of
support. I have a new scanner and will be able to start sharing
submissions that are way overdue to be included.
Warm regards, Mimi
