A little bit of history....
These two states are not only next to each other,
Aguascalientes was once part of Zacatecas! 
Approximately in 1845, the President, or dictator, of
Mexico, Santa Ana, punished Zacatecas for being to
independent by taking Aguascalientes away from them.  

There was a liberal movement in Zacatecas against
Santa Ana led by Francisco Garcia Salinas, an ancestor
from Jerez, that antagonized Santa Ana. So he punished
them by taking away Aguascalientes from them and
making it a state. 

Poor Mexico, this was just one of the many disasters
that would happen to Mexico and its people for the
next 160 years.
