Re: Jonathan's Film File-was-file uploaded to ranchos

Mary,

Depending on the type of record you have at home it may not be as
accurate as the baptismal record. For the purpose of establishing a
date of birth a baptismal record would be considered the primary
source, than say a death record. The person giving the deceased's
date of birth for the death certificate was anyone but the deceased,
so they could easily make a mistake. The spelling of the name
(Refugio vs. Refugia) I wouldn't be too concerned with either. I've
seen records where the priest writes the name two different ways in
the same record! If all the names and the place and time period
match up, then it is likely the same Petra Romero you are researching.

Maria

in records at home I found her birthdate as June 8, 1873. Perhaps
the 1872 date is incorrect. I recall as a girl that she would
insist she was indeed from "Salinas" not "Sabinas??" Everything
else matches except that her mom's name is spelled Refugio on the
paper work I have found, mostly handwritten notes here and there. I
also have her death certificate. And that's about it. Thank you so
much, Jose. Mary (Garana) Allen
