RE: [ranchos] Films on permanent loan.

Victor and Peggy,

I don't know where you live but my advice is to find an FHC center that you really like within reasonable distance from you. I have 4 centers in my area but thanks to Helyn a Rancho's member I go to one that to date has been very good to me and while it's not the closest one they are very accomodating. I have also learned not to get over zealous by ordering too many films at one time. There are some films that are very long covering a long time span and some that are shorter and easier to review.

Thanks to many of you who answered my questions about lateral research. I have now given myself permission to take as long as necessary in order to get where I'm going in my ancestral search. It could be finding all my aunts and uncles(lateral) as well as my direct line ancestors and I'll get there when I get there

I have been scanning the films that I order record by record lest I miss something valuable. I now know that in the first films I reviewed last March when I went to Salt Lake I scanned over them too fast and probably missed finding data about some of these aunts, uncles or cousins that would or should be in my data base. Fortunately I know which ones they are and can request them again for my local FHC.

Peggy, as Arturo stated, any films that you deem valuable, before your two or three week time period is up you can renew  and after the third renewal it will remain at your local FHC on permanent or indefinite loan. Those are the film numbers that Joseph has requested we include in the database. I for one need to document which film #'s, location, time period and event and forward or enter into the data base if we are allowed to edit.

Peggy,

I understand your feelings.  The nearest FHC for me usually opens only
on Saturdays and just for three hours.  It has 2 projectors but only
one is in working order.  On my last visit I was shown a letter where
they were asking for the films I haven't even reviewed to be sent
back.  At this rate it'll take at least a couple of lives to find all
my ancestors.  jah!  Maybe I'll find myself in the next life!

Victor
