Re: [ranchos] Re: Jonathan's Film File-was-file uploaded to ranchos

Jonathan, you are so kind and encouraging.

I am especially concerned about my grandfather  Jose Adalberto Garana.  This is all I know about him:   He was born in 1873 in Mexico but I don't know where. I don't know his father's name but I believe his mother was Maria Garana. This leads me to believe that his father's name was something else.  He was educated by the Augustinians and the Jesuits.    He married Petra Romero Gonzalez of Salinas, SLP, probably in 1904 and lived in San Luis Potosi, SLP,  and had a son in 1905 and daughters in 1907 and 1911.  In 1917 he crossed through El Paso with his wife and three children and others hired to work on the Santa Fe railroad.  They went to Fort Madison, Iowa.  I find him again in 1921 in San Antonio, Tx.  He died in Corpus Christi, Tx in 1958.

Of my great grandfather I have found even less.  Victor Romero married Refugio Gonzalez and had a daughter Petra Romero Gonzalez in 1873 in Salinas, SLP.  I have found a photo of him dated 1894 with a woman identified as his wife, who  is not Refugio Gonzalez. This much I know from Petra herself whom I knew.     That's it.  That's all I have been able to find out.

I am still digging but if you can help me I will be so grateful.  I found a photo of a nun, dated 1967.  I sent copies to my nun friends and one of them took the photo to Mexico City and actually found the nun, alive, alert and 93.  I am planning to go very soon to visit with her.  I believe she may be the child of the woman in the photo with Don Victor.  I will let you know what I find.

Mary,

If you could tell me, the names and what information, that you have on
the grandfathers, that you are searching for.  I'll see if I can find
anything.

Also, to all of the Ranchos members,  if you have elusive ancestor,
send me the information.  And I will see, if I can find anything.

Thanks,
Jonathan

but in the whole genealogy experience itself. I have been working
steadily for about nine years and made a lot of "progress" but was
striking out in all directions and actually don't even know if I was
running into ancestors or not.  Then I ran into Ranchos and it put the
whole thing into focus.  Now I am rather excited because by sending
out copies of an unidentified photo, I actually have my first "hit".
It is a living person, 93 years old, who is the granddaughter of the
very man I was looking up.  I may really need some help later but in a
couple of weeks I am flying to Mexico City to meet this person who is
willing to receive me.  I will see what she can give me; I understand
she is very alert.    I definitely will need help with the other
grandfather who absolutely hides from  me:  The secret may be in Salt
Lake City.   I have ordered some of the films, waited a very long time
to receive them only to realize I

It is almost as if I am sitting on the sidelines listening to you
speak to each other.  Exciting.   One day I hope to have something to
say.     Mary Garana Allen
