hi Jonathan and Francisco,
my Spanish is pretty good conversational Spanish but I wouldn't go past
that. For interviews in Spanish I am looking for volunteers so I can
put up Author interviews online via my podcast. What I want to do is
find willing volunteers to go to the "books in print" database [ask
your local public or university library if they are subscribed to this]
and scroll down to a book to a subject they are either studying or want
to study and try to arrange an interview with the author. What I've
done is google the authors name and try to find an email. Contact the
author and ask if they would be willing to be interviewed. If they
respond positively then you would ask them to send you a list of
questions they would feel comfortable answering in relation to their
book. OR. . .or you would just give them the telephone for 10-30
minutes and let them give a presentation about the book that would
include a reading or two, but I don't want the session to be nothing
but one long reading.
some things that could work would be to have them:
1) give the why they wrote the book and what other authors on this
subject they read before writing their book
1a) what aspect of the subject they felt wasn't adequately covered in
previous books that forced them to the conclusion that another book
needed to be written
2) what made them feel their background was up to the challenge of
writing the book and what other books they have written. would they be
interested in future interviews on these other books
3) go over the table of contents making comments on what is covered via
each section
4) definitely ask them to give details on where the book can be
purchased and then ask them to repeat any online URL's or email
addresses.
5) ask how the person's readers can contact them and repeat the
information if they give it.
6) ask them if they have a bibliography of related information that can
be included in the written notes for the Audio of the interview.
7) ask them if there is anything else about the book that hasn't been
covered that they would like the audience to know.
8) ask them if there is only one main point about the book that they
want their reader to walk away with after reading the book what would
it be.
9)-20) would be author supplied questions
As far as recording what would be a bare minimum would be a good
telephone connection to the person you are calling and some sort of
device to record the conversation off the phone. Radio shack sells
devices that would allow you to record telephone calls. I'm not talking
about the kind with a suction cup on the phone receiver but a device
that plugs into a phone socket in your house. anyway I would hope for a
digital recording of the conversation but would be happy with a
cassette recording that I would then transfer to digital format.
I know it sounds like there is an expense involved so volunteers would
need to be happy with the greater good they are a major part of. .
.wasn't that a nice way of me saying that thanks is all I can give.
thanks,
joseph
ps: if the finding and arranging for interviews is the problem part
then I can do that part. . .I was just wanting to reward the
interviewer by letting them contact people that are "supposedly"
knowledgeable in an area that the interviewer wanted more information
on.
pps: Steven Hernandez. . .maybe your Author Cousin el Señor Leal would
be interested in being interviewed. Would you be interested in
interviewing him for my podcast?
ppps: who else in the group knows authors on the subject of Latino and
Native American History and Genealogy that might be interested in being
interviewed?
