Hi Irma:
Thank you for the encouragement to
keep on digging the roots...It is like a vitamin pill to keep me going.
There are a couple of books,
that I have, that cover Jose Maria Gonzalez de Hermosillo. The first
one, "Biografia de Don Jose Gonzalez de Hermosillo - General
Insurgente" Written by Nicolas de Anda Sanchez" The author claims that
he ( Hermosillo) was from Teocaltiche, Jalisco.
The second book: "Jalostotitlan
a Traves de Los Siglos" by Jose Antonio Gutierrez Gutierrez, has a
more detailed and complete history of not only Jalostotilan, but of
the entire region called "Nueva Galicia". In this book the author
claims that Hermosillo was from Jalostotitlan. I highly recommend
this book to all the members since it has maps showing the following:
Naciones Indigenas del Norte, from Durango, Saltillo in the North, to
Guadalajara and Queretato to the South.
Hey John, something for you to think about. Your Spanish is excellent
and it looks like you highly value these books. Why not lets consider
you interviewing those authors both for Ranchos benefit but also for my
Nuestra Familia Unida Podcast? If you might be interested this is how
it would work. I would call you and then call the author via a 3-way
call. I would join in to exchange pleasantries but when the Interview
were to start I would be silent and you would interview the author
while I record it on my end.
A map labeled: La Gran Chichimeca
En el Siglo XVI. What is iteresting about this map is that it shows an
outline of "La Nueva Galicia" The cities around the boundry are:
Guadalajara, El Teul, Colotlan, Durango, Cuencamé, Parras,
Saltillo,Ciudad Valles, Queretaro,and Guanjuato.
A map of how the area was
colonized. It shows mainly the area from Guadalajara to Teocaltiche,
Lagos de Moreno, Arandas, and back to Guadalajara. It shows which
families settled in which cities. Lomelí, Gallo, Gonzalez in
Yahualica. In Teocaltiche, Padilla and Reynoso.
In Lagos de Moreno: Issai,
Serrano, Sanroman, Ortiz de Parra and also Hermosillo. In
Jalostotitlan: Pérez, Franco, Padilla, Jimenez, Reynoso, and Gonzalez.
In Tepatitlan: Barba and Gonzalez.
There are other maps including:
Las Rutas Mineras y de Frontera, Poblaciones y Camino de Nueva Galicia,
Nueva Vizcaya y Nuevo Leon.
There is also a map of La Nueva
España framed by pictures of the 90+ "Virreyes".

Bravo John! Very interesting
research, so much in such a short time. Keep us apprised of what you
find on Jose Maria Gonz de Hermo., and the Gonzales clan. I've read
the same about both towns claiming him.
