Thanks for that link to the article about Spanish explorers and the
Northwest being part of Nueva Galicia. People around here, other than the
Native Americans, think that only their ancestors (Anglo and Scandinavian) were
the first here. There are very few Hispanic place names up
here. There is a San Juan de Fuca Strait up here, and further north in
Alaska is a town called Vadez (they corrected me when I pronounced it our
way---they say "Val-deeez").

I believe it would even include Durango and Chihuahua.
And
speaking of Michoacán.... If we were to speak about the
old territories of "Nueva Galicia", then we'd have to include
Michoacán all the way to Sonora (and maybe further north), including
Jalisco, Zacatecas, Aguascalientes, Nayarit, Colima and
Sinaloa.
