I think they're all awesome, strong names, although I don't understand some of them.  To me, they're all unique and very very cool.  I wish my mom had named me a typical Mexican name.....I've never liked my name and got teased a lot.  Peggy, my name, sounds caucasian (nothing against caucasians, but I would have like something more .....I don't know....ethnic.......)
as a Joseph I got where you're coming from. but as Steven pointed out a good while back Joseph was a Jew from a biblical time (hmmm, he wasn't a Levite was he???  que chistoso soy! 8^), but even though into the late 1700's I see my name written in the records exactly as "Joseph" and many variations there off I still feel like the only one of four that got "americanized." . . .afterall there was an Antonia, Julio, Virginia and then the caboose was "Joseph."

for the meaning of some of those names or at least the roots or what they were originally:

also look in the "links" area for a lot of URL on names:

joseph

ps: I work for the post office and we should be happy we don't have some names that are easily misunderstood by other cultures. In my time sorting mail the worst name I've seen was: Greensh*t (which was probably German and the sh*t part was probably pronounced Shy-T). How'd you like to have to explain that to your school friends? So lets be thankful for "Plutarco" which is one of my favorites.

Merry Christmas everyone!

You mentioned custom plates;

My father's name was Nemesio, how common is that?  not very!  and my maternal granfather's name was Priciliano.  I am John Gonzalez, or if you prefer, Juan Gonzalez.  My custom license plate is:  1Gnzlz  (One Gonzalez) =sounds like Juan Gonzalez.  There are four Juan Gonzalez in my great grandfather's line, I am number five.  (Boring.  Lack of imagination? or just trying to perpetuate the name ?)  None of my kids are named John.

Aren't you glad to not be named Reducindo or Reducinda?  One of my
ancestors is named Narciso, another Prudencio, another Petronilo, and
another Zenobio...what names!!!!  Marge:)
There is nothing wrong with these names. Our ancestors apparently felt these names were much better and different than the custom plate names.
