Re: [ranchos] 1550: Suave!!!

John,

So your grandmother was born in Jerez in 1903 and you say the records were "destroyed"?  My father was born in Jerez also in 1903, and when we went there to try to get a birth record the priest at the church told him that the records for 1903 had been "burned"  (I presumed that happened around 1910-1916 when my father and his father left Mexico forever because the fighting was so horrendous there during the Revolution.  What were you told about how the records were destroyed?  Please let me know if you find anything on those born in Jerez in 1903.  I recently posted a link to my Olague-Tinajero [Felix] tree that I updated on World Connect.  Did you see it?

My maternal grandmother was Gorgonia Garcia and her parents were Ignacio Garcia and Maria Guadalupe Rodriguez. I have not found a thing on them yet in the IGI, and I am assuming they were from Jerez, since my father Guadalupe Olague was born there, but his father Francisco Olague was born, as were all his ancestors going back to the early 1700s, in Salitrillo, part of the jurisdiction of Tepetongo.

Hello Jose:

Thank you for your kind words, we all need a few words of encouragement every now and then and I appreciate your words.  Thank you again.
As far as : "Gonzalez de Hermosillo" is concerned, I found a book titled :  "Jalostotitlan a Traves de Los Siglos"  The book mentions Juan Gonzalez de Hermosillo as being one of the first settlers in Jalostotitlan, along with his wife Ana.  I traced my line all the way back to him and that's where I find myself at the moment.  There were 10 generations of "Gonzalez de Hermosillo"   in Jalos.
I am waiting for a couple of films from the LDS to see if I can go a little further back.  Thank you for offering me assistance with the Gonzalez name.  My maternal grandmother's  last name was Gonzalez, and she was from Jerez Zacatecas. There could be a connection there between Gonzalez from Zacatecas and Durango.  I have not started doing research  on my mother's side because I want to see how far I can go on my father's side of the family.  I am anticipating some problems with her because some of the records,  for the date when she was born (1903) , were destroyed.
I will make sure that I stay in touch with you as soon as I get started in Zacatecas.

Hello John:

Congratulation!

Your experience about researching your ancestral line of "González de Hermosillo" has knick me in a hard way, is very impacting to any that has spent much time in our research, many times we seek where there are noting of information, in Spanish we say: "damos palos de ciego".

You say:

"I feel that being able to go back  about 455  years was mostly luck...".

You are very "modesto", you did your work to obtain that you now have. The "luck" is where the preparation and opportunity join to benefit our, if there is not "preparation", there is not "luck", and if there is not "opportunity", then there is not "luck". Your minds proceed to run in the accurate way, because you were thinking about of your ancestors, and this is the best preparation to do the research. After, you were work hard to found your genealogical tree:

"I was surfing the internet one day and...
"I went to visit a cousin, who...
"I went to the Census records and...
"Information about my family  for the period, 1917 to the present, was collected from living relatives at family reunions and family visits...
"Now, anytime I see a relative, I bug them to tell me as much as they know...
"Some of the records were a tough challange to read...

And so... Your account is filled with a great work, after that your "luck", you needy had was to work hardly to finish with your precious data.

You are a great lesson for the rest of the "ranchos group".  Thanks for share your experience with others.
