Another reason for inter-marriages is that young ladies were not allowed
to date or to go anywhere without a chaperone. Who did they see on a day to
day basis without a chaperone? the neighbor and the sons or daughters of
the neighboring landowners. Another factor is that marriages were quite often
arranged by the parents, they decided who their children should or should not
marry and many or most times it was the sons or daughters of their close
friends, family and compadres. The compadres were usually family too.
My mother, my mother in-law and my tia Elvira all tell stories of
the men they really loved and wanted to marry but were not allowed to do so by
their parents.
If mom would have been allowed to marry the man of her choice I
would not be an Avelar, Aguayo, Garcia, Gomez, etc. I'll have to ask mom what
surnames I would have if she had married her true love.

Sanchez family and my uncle
Tribucio Duarte and
Francisco Castellano Sanchez were business

back in 1815. I do know that Francisco Castellanos

originally from Aguascalientes.
