Probably many of you know about this already, but those who do not,
and who live in California, I recommend you to visit the Los Angeles
County Museum of Art. They are holding an exhibition of Mexican
Casta Painting from the eighteen century. I think this is a very
unique oportunity that you shouldn't pass, because this is one of
the biggest gatherings of casta paintings, around 200, many of them
from private collections. I went to visit the museum yesterday and
was very delighted at seeing those paintings that reflect the
lifestyles of the New Spain. Again, those of you who live in
southern California, don't miss this opportunity. And those who do
not live in California, take an airplane and enjoy this collection.
They are going to be held at LACMA until August 8, and after that
they are all going to different museums and private homes all around
the world. To find more information, check the LACMA website at
www.lacma.org and click on the link INVENTING RACE. They also offer
a 200 page catalog aobut casta paintings, in both english and
spanish.
