As for myself, I have always used Family Tree Maker, by Brøderbund. While I cannot say anything about RootsMagic, I am quite familiar with Personal Ancestral File. I have always found PAF cumbersome and awfully hard to manipulate in. Even doing the simplest of commands is a mindboggling undertaking. Sorry to any PAF fans out there, but I give it two thumbs down. :(
I would like to familiarize myself with RootsMagic. Sounds good. While Family Tree Maker is great if you want to create custom made reports, single person descendancy charts, pedigree charts, family group sheets, and many other things, I do not have much freedom to arrange the items in a family group sheets in the precise order that I want.
Family Tree Maker also makes really nice picture pedigree charts. I have been doing this for a while now, and it's really not hard to do at all.
