Re: [ranchos] Digest Number 204

Dear Group--

My husband and I spent 10 days in Jalisco in December.
We went a few times to the city of Atotonilco el Alto
but spent most of the time with our cousins in the
nearby villages of Margaritas, Santa Elena, San
Joaquin, and Milpillas. There is another place in
Jalisco called Atotonilco el Bajo so I always make
sure to say the complete name of the first city
mentioned.

My niece and I went two different days to view the
local cemeteries. The first was the old cemetery in
Atotonilco el Alto. A few years ago there was a flood
and it destroyed some of the plots. Where before the
dates could go back hundreds of years, that is not the
case today. Next trip I will check the new cemetery
of Atotonilco el Alto and see what I can find.

We also went to the cemetery near Margaritas which
among others, serves the people of Margaritas, San
Joaquin and Santa Elena. It wasn't for me but I was
looking for the name of Borunda for a contact of mine.
I found lots. We went on a day of full sunshine and
spent at least two hours. I hope to go again to
continue my research.

Both trips were very informative and I took a lot of
pictures and some notes. I am now following up by
looking again at the 1930 Mexican Census at my local
Family History Center.

Happy New Year to all. Sincerely,
            Patricia Diane Godinez
