Re: [ranchos] Re: Zapotlanejo, Jalisco, anyone?

Hi there,

Ooo, sounds like a lead.  But you know...I just barely broke through this dead-end, and don't have many details on their history.  Right now I basically know this:

1.    Ma. Celsa Alvarez, born April 1826, Zapotlanejo, md. 1844 to Antonio Hernández

Father
2.    Simón Alvarez, born 1803, Zapotlanejo, md. 1823 to Ma. Hermenegilda Regalado

Grandfather
3.    Pablo Alvarez, born ca 1768, Zapotlanejo, md. 1787 to María Anacleta (Cleta) Nuño

Great-grandfather
4.    Joseph María Alvarez, born 1725-1735, Zapotlanejo ???, md. ?? to María Alvarez

It is very possible that YOUR Nicolás Alvarez and my Alvarez people are descendants or members of the same Alvarez family based out of Zapotlanejo.  But to figure that out, we have to dig a little more.  And that's not going to be easy by the looks of it.

I have already ordered many early Zapotlanejo baptism and marriage microfilms, and the informations seems to be spotty, terrible writing in some cases, and NONE of the records have been extracted into the IGI, especially during all the 1700s.  When I mean "spotty" I mean that the priest more often than not omitted the names of the parents of the bride/groom in marriages even as late as 1800.  And when he did he would only give one pair of parents and not the other.  Very rarely is the info complete.

So we'll have to research in the "dark" so to speak and start from scratch.  It seems I have my work cut out for me.  One plus though...there does not seem to be that many Alvarez folks in Zapotlanejo, so piecing together the puzzle should not be impossibly difficult.  The other family that should be fun to research is NUÑO.  There seem to be many, many families by that name and apparently all related to one another, but very far back.  I have already seen about 2 dozen distinct Nuño families, and so far, I haven't spotted their connection.  It must be far back.  And it's a bit different too.  It's not Núñez, which was my first thought, but definitely Nuño.

Anyhow,  María maybe we should coordinate our efforts when researching in Zapotlanejo.  We'll get more done that way.

Until later,
Steven H.
