It was Zacatecas, Zacatecas records that were missing. Here is John
Schmal's email to me on the subject:
"HI
Joseph: Friends of mine travelled to Zacatecas a couple years ago.
Those missing records were somehow destroyed. General Santa Anna sacked
the city of Zacatecas around 1835, which may have destroyed some of the
records, but there was also a fire, so they are apparently lost
forever, most unfortunately.
Sorry, I couldn't give you good news. The Matrimonio Informacion
records are available, so they must have been stored somewhere else.
But regular marriage and baptisms aren't in existence any longer.

I would, also, be interested in the missing Sombrerete records. My
great grandmother was born there and I believe her parents were,
also, born there. Her name was Ynes Salas [b: about 1845]. Her
parents were Jose Maria Salas and Urbana Ruelas. I can't go any
further back at this point.
<Contact John Schmal he is the historian for Somos Primos and he
<and I had done some research together and he knows the scoop
<on the records that are missing. For some reason I remember
<him telling me these records can be found in Las Cruces, New
<Mexico.
I live in Las Cruces, NM. Tell me what records I need to look for.
