So in order to find the children we start by entering the names of the parents
in the top right where it says "Father Last Name" and "Mother Last Name."
At this point you will need to draw on your good organizational and note
taking skills because you need to consider all the different possibilities
and variations for spelling and given names.
Lets use the example of my GG grandparents: Lucio Santa Maria y Cecilia Espinosa
if you enter these names as is you will get 4 of their children from Tepetongo,
Zacatecas
But one needs to be aware that there are several variations by which this
couple could be entered in the LDS database on FamilySearch.
These are the some of the combinations for my GG grandparents that you need
to consider when entering the couple you want to search:
1) Lucio Santa Maria y Cecilia Espinosa
2) Lucio Santa Maria y Maria Espinosa
3) Jose Santa Maria y Cecilia Espinosa
4) Jose Santa Maria y Maria Espinosa
but lets not stop there. Since sometimes the Mother wore the name of her
mom it is important to preform the same searches only with the first names
as is allowed by the FamilySearch search engine.
Here are those combinations:
5) Lucio Santa Maria y Cecilia
6) Lucio Santa Maria y Maria
7) Jose Santa Maria y Cecilia
8) Jose Santa Maria y Maria
in doing these searches I found an additional 6 children for my GG Grandparents
because as it turned out my GG Grandmother Cecilia Espinosa also at times
gave her name as Cecilia Lugo since her mother was Antonia Lugo.
So all that being said now I come to the most powerful of all searches and
I am very thankful to my Cousin Angie Godina for sharing this with me as
I've used it to find many children in a parent search.
lets look back at this window under the Search Tab:

now see where it says *Use exact spelling ? Well check that.
Look where it says "First Name" and "Last Name" on the left side of the above
picture.
Well now you leave "First Name" blank but under "Last Name" you put the parents
combination of names together.
So if the parents names were: Tadeo Diaz y Genoveva Leanos (my GGG Grandparents)
you would enter Diaz Leanos in the "Last Name" box
if you click on "search" you will come up with two of this couples children.
But remember you have "exact spelling" picked so now you need to go through
and use all the possible variant spellings of the above names. Here are some
of the possible combinations as an example as to how you should also try
your particular variations:
1) Diaz Leanos
2) Dias Leanos
3) Diaz Leano
4) Dias Leano
5) Dia Leanos
6) Dia Leano
In doing these last searches I was able to find an additional 10 children.

No problem.
Do you know of anyone that might have contributed some information to Ranchos
that might be willing to have us publish the information in our journal also?
Thanks
