The Rizo family of Arandas and Jesús María, Jalisco.

Hello everyone in the Ranchos Group,

I wanted to address and comment on José Rizo's recent discoveries and good fortune over having Arandas roots.  As of yet José's lines are still much too recent for me be of any help, but as far as Arandas resources are concerned, I have tons of info. 

Over 50% of all my lines came from Arandas.  I have more information regarding Arandas genealogy than any other town in Los Altos put together, and this also includes the nearby towns of Ayo el Chico and Jesús María included. 

From our first messages, José mentioned that his grandfather's name was José-Guadalupe Rizo Angel, son of Estanislao and Felicitas Angel.  Just yesterday, or the other day, he mentioned that Estanislao was the son of Antonio Rizo and Feliciana González.  Well upon further investigation, I did happen to find the marriage of Estanislao Rizo in 1891, but to Ma. Guadalupe Padilla Morillo.  Look:

BINGO!!!!!!!!   THESE ARE THE ONES!!!!!!!  As you can see the real parents of Estanislao Rizo were NOT Antonio Rizo and Felicana González, but rather Francisco Rizo and Ma. Refugio Sevilla.  Well, well, José, it seems that we are related on more than just our Rizo lines, but also on our Sevilla lines.  I am a direct descendant of Ignacio Sevilla-Fletes and Antonia Efigenia Llamas, the patriarchs in the mid 1700's of the SEVILLA surname in the Ayo el Chico, Arandas, and Jesús María region.  Here's more on the other names contained in the previously mentioned records:

The previous data and results clearly show how you can only start with a good foundation.  José, before you start researching too far back, start looking for your grandfather's birth around 1891, in either Jesús María or Arandas.  I fell into the same trap that you just fell into, where I did not start researching my grandfather or great-granparents first to get a clear picture of who their progenitors were.  Instead I tried to go the farthest back with the most distant ancestor I had, my great-great-grandmother, and just started looking her up without realizing who her parents were.  Suffice it to say, I sure made a mess of things when for years I was researching the wrong line, just because I jumped to conclusions in my early research.  And don't trust or confide in the Computer databases too much either, always look for your history in the original source documents.  That's where all the good stuff is.

But most importantly, you should really take the time to research your mother's genealogy at the same time you research your father's.  Where are your mother's roots from?  Is she also from Arandas, or a nearby town?  If so she will definitely be related to your father.  Also, when you order microfilm you know contain your father's lines, your mother's lines could also be in that very same film (this happened to me), but you wouldn't know it if you don't start researching her lines too. 

Remember that a family tree really isn't a tree if it's just the bare tree trunk with no branches at all.  There's more to our genealogy than just our direct male line.  Many times our most interesting ancestors come from female lines.

Just remember: be careful, open minded, diligent, and always double check your info with more than just one source.  There are errors in the original documents many times, but they are your best sources anyway, better than the computer ones.
