Hi
Steven,
Thank you so much. I
definitely would not call those " a few bits" of data. Also, the
Perez info you sent really clarified alot. I had wondered if my GGG
Grandfather, Rafael Perez was related to my GGGG Grandmother, Ma. Josefa
Perez. It appears now that they were both children of Jose-Bernardo
Perez & Ma. Micaela Gtz. What a tangled web. There are several of
my lines that tangle in and out. I guess you know that after researching
as long as you have. I have several Gutierrez lines too. I posted
one that is actually two lines in one. I wouldn't be surprised if they all
hooked up. I'll post the others as soon as I can. I know that you
can shed some light in untangling them. I just know that all of
these Gutierrez have to be the same ones.
You
asked about Jose Juan Gomez,--he was my paternal
grandfather.
I'm currently finishing up
the Jalos bap records (1792-1806), but I will definitely be requesting
the San Miguel baptismal microfilm tomorrow. From Family Search,
I see that Juana Ma Hermosillo was born abt. Feb 1822, but I
see what you mean about researching the earlier film for now because most of her
older siblings would be located in that one. And, I've already noticed
that sometimes errors are made in records. I am of the same mind, I like
to have several pieces of concrete information. Several of my sources,
older uncles, oral history, etc., and dad swore up and down that Jose
Maria Gomez', wife was Ma. Josefa Marquez and not
Perez. They also swore they were both born in Lugo,
Spain. I'm lining up my research and documentation for my older Tio Juan
in Aguascalientes. He's into geneology too, and has a family tree fountain
in Ags. of the Gomez line up to Jose Ma., but Josefa has Marquez as her last
name! I think though that with the documentaion I have and am getting,
he'll be excited. I just hate to ruin his beautiful fountain. My
very supportive dad wants me to put something together for him when he goes this
Summer.
Again thank you, and I'll be in
touch.
Irma
Dear
Irma,
I'm so glad you enjoyed the few bits of data I was able to put
together for you. I am currently sending more and these should also be
available in the files section of Ranchos. When I have a chance I'll
post a simple overview of my basic lineage and then I'll into more
detail. But even before that, Irma, I'll send you something showing my
connection to your families...I mean...our families. The thing is, we
share so many ancestors, I don't even know where to begin. And just to
give you an idea, I have been researching for a little over ten years.
I've gleaned my ancestry not just from microfilm but from the various books
that have already been published about Alteño genealogy.
Just before I
even got your reply with the answer as to who Ma. Josepha Pérez's parents
were, I had already done a little digging and discovered them for
myself. I have tons of indefinite films from every town in Los Altos at
my local family history center, including San Miguel el Alto and Jalos.
I researched one of the her siblings and found out that Ma. Josepha's parents
were Joseph Bernardo Pérez de Paredes and María Micaela Gutiérrez de Mendoza,
individuals I already had in my family tree program. See, all I needed
was to make the connection. In case you want to get their actual
marriage record, here's their IGI info:

As you can see from the
attached pedigree chart, I had already researched this line quite
thoroughly. You're probably noticing that these Pérez people used
slightly different last names. At times they'd go by Pérez de Paredes
and at other times, Pérez Franco. Fear not, they are in fact the same
surname and the same family. Another variation of that same surname was
Franco de Paredes. This is because these three family surnames have the
same origin. They are all descended from don Alonso Pérez Torillo,
native of Huelva, España, son of don Andrés Pérez and doña María
Torillo. In 1654, in the town of Silao (Guanajuato), he married doña
Luisa de Paredes y Montoya (born May 1632, in Silao), daughter of don Blas de
Paredes and doña Anna María Franco de Montoya. The various names in both
of their ancestries became melded in this new family in the New World.
So we get Pérez (which is the direct male line) attached to Franco and
Paredes, which came from Alonso's wife Luisa. What this means is that
anyone whose last name is Pérez de Paredes, Pérez Franco, and Franco de
Paredes, are all related. (See Joseph, this is another one of those
examples of children of the same couple having different surnames, and then
passing on the different last names to future generations.)
The
Hermosillo family is pretty much the same scenario. The original name
was González de Hermosillo, because our most distant ancestor came from the
town of Hermosilla, in the province of Burgos, in northern Spain. Our
ancestor, Capitán don Juan González de Hermosillo (son of don Alonso de
Hermosillo and doña Catalina González), was an hijodalgo (hidalgo) which
participated in the third expedition of the conquest of Mexico, under the
command of don Hernán Cortés. Don Juan was born around 1495, which can
be deduced from the age he gave in his Pasaje a Indias in 1515, when he said
he was "veinte años poco más o menos"--twenty years, more or less.
Before moving on to New Spain, he appears in Cuba around 1518, by which we can
conclude he also took part in the conquest and colonization of the
island. He was Corregidor, Justicia Mayor, Alcalde, and Visitador,
keeping this last post under the administrations of three viceroys: don
Antonio de Mendoza, don Luis de Velasco, and don Martín Enríquez de
Almanza. Don Juan was married to doña Catalina Ramírez. (Source:
Blasones y Apellidos, segunda edición, Fernando Muñoz Altea,
2002, página 475.)
Their grandson, don Juan González de Hermosillo,
married to doña Anna Rodríguez de la Magdalena, were the parents of OUR Juan
González de Hermosillo, baptized on 8 July 1571 in the Sagrario, Mexico
City. This Juan was the progenitor of the entire and vastly widespread
Hermosillo families. Don Juan married doña María Muñoz around 1587, and
moved to the Jalostotitlán area in Nueva Galicia. His children,
grandchildren, and other descendants would then adopt the following surnames:
González de Hermosillo, Ramírez de Hermosillo, Muñoz de Hermosillo, García de
Hermosillo, Sánchez de Hermosillo, Gutiérrez de Hermosillo, and
Hermosillo. Your Hermosillo, as well as Gutiérrez de Hermosillo,
González de Hermosillo, and Ramírez de Hermosillo, are all descended from this
marriage.
So Irma it is important that you find out the parents of don
Juan María de Hermosillo and Ma. Rafaela Gutiérrez. As of right now, I
don't know who they are. But I guarantee that once you find out who
their parents are, I'll have those guys, whoever they are. Therefore,
you should review what you have up to this point:

By ordering these films, you'll be guaranteed that you'll
find Juan Hermosillo and Rafaela Gutiérrez's parents, if not from your own
ancestor, Juana María, but from her other siblings. That way, if there
is some discrepancy in one or more of the baptism records, you'll have others
to fall back on. Never rely on one single source. Always
OVER-research instead of UNDER-research.
By the way, Irma, what
relation is José Juan Gómez to you? Is he your great-grandfather or
grandfather? Do you have info on your other lines? Now that I've
seen the little you posted, I can't wait to see what else is in your
tree...and how far it goes. And like I said before, I'll post something
on my lines soon.
Wish you the best of luck through hard work. Y
como dice Joseph, no hay que tenerle miedo al trabajo duro, porque si nosotros
los mexicanos nos decidimos, con empeño y esfuerzo, podemos logar todas
nuestras metas. ¡Sí se puede!
Hasta la próxima, Tu primo

Hi Steven, A big wow! I
just looked at the charts you posted. This is so exciting. I
have always been interested in geneology. My abuelito, Fernando
Gutierrez (on my mom's side) was also into geneology. I think
that this is where I got the bug. You know, I have been researching
my geneology for a few years now. I just ventured into microfilm via the
Family History Ctr a little over three years ago. I went to Mexico
(Jalostotitlan, San Juan de los Lagos, and Aguascalientes--where many of my
dad's siblings have moved to)last Summer with my dad. There I met a
second cousin (on my mom's side, again) who is also into geneology.
He filled in a lot on several branches. My Ma. Juana
Hermosillo line stops with Juan-Maria Hermosillo & Ma. Rafaela
Gutierrez, until I can begin researching San Miguel El Alto--I noticed
through Family Search that Maria Juana was baptized there. I
know that once I'm able to access her baptismal I can continue on up.
Wow, if you have that information I would most definitely appreciate
this. I am currently researching the Jalos Baptismal records from
1792-1806. I have tried to stick to one town at a time, and work
up. Since three of my grandparents were from Jalos, I've been
researching Jalos. My grandmother's family was mainly from San Juan
de los Lagos. As soon as I can, I will post the other
branches to the website. As I told Joseph, I'm having computer problems, so
I'm just recreating word documents with the bare bones branches. I
have my family history software on my home computer, but I'm having
problems accessing my email from home. I'd be interested in any information
you can give me. I'm interested in where you fit into the
family. I also noticed that your other last name is Lopez. On
my mother's side, her great great grandmother's name was Maria de Jesus
Lopez (Jalos, too). I'll include this into the posting. This is
so amazing...
Thanks again, Irma
In response to your other question. Maria-Josefa Perez's
folks were:
Jose Bernardo Perez and
Micaela or Miguela Ramirez Thanks Again for your help, Irma
P.S.
I'll post my other branches, hopefully by tomorrow.
