Now I guess its obvious why I started this group. And its obvious why I toss in my comments on how I do my research. That one technique has got to be the best thing. . .I just used it and came up with long lists of people I want to investigate. I'm sure later it will help me find relatives. Angie, thanks!!! I use all the searches you described plus about two more. Have you ever tried using the "Use exact spelling" checkbox? Leave all fields blank except the last name field. In the last name field type in the father's last name, then the mother's last name. Both last names in the same field. Then click the checkbox and run the search. I have been able to find many people using this method. The only thing is that at least one of the last names have to be uncommon. Otherwise you will get a list of like 200 names. When I run the searches I generally get less the 25 names and I can look at the individuals based on location. You also have to think about the different spelling variations. For example: Diaz Sanchez (two common last names, probably not a good example... :( ...) But if you did want to search for them the variations would be:1. Diaz Sanchez 2. Dias Sanchez 3. Diaz Sanches 4. Dias SanchesThis has helped me in many cases when the person used multiple names. For example I have someone who sometimes went by Jose, Pedro, and Antonio. Finally found his christening record and it did list all three names as Jose Pedro Antonio Mirmamontes! The second search I have used with parents names, is after doing all the other searches mentioned, get a list of batch numbers for couple's children. Go to the search page where it asks for batch number. Type in either just the father's last name, or just the mother last name, or just the father and mother's first names. And run the search. This helps get searches where names are mispelled. The Soundex doesn't always pick up mispelled last names. Or in cases where the last name is spelled correctly but is listed as part of their first name and so searching by that last name doesn't yield any results. I have been able to find Romero's spelled Ramero (probably the person typing into the system misread a tail on the 'o'). And I have found Valensuela's spelled Valenssuela (for some reason soundex doesn't make it a match). All kinds of names get mixed around.Anyway...just thought I would add my two cents...hope this helps people with their searches.Angie To unsubscribe from this group, send an email to: ranchos-unsubscribe@yahoogroups.comYour use of Yahoo!
